Winter Sunshine and Laughter: A Day at Raja Rani, Letang
Published on February 1, 2026
There is no winter ritual quite like a forest picnic, and Raja Rani in Letang (Morang) remains the ultimate destination for it. Tucked away from the dusty highways, this spot is a beautiful blend of natural greenery and serene lakeside vibes, making it the perfect escape for a cold January afternoon.
As we arrived, the winter sun was just starting to filter through the tall trees, casting long, golden shadows across the picnic grounds. The air in Letang has a specific crispness—cool enough to require a light jacket, but warm enough to enjoy being outdoors.
The Perfect Setup
Our group claimed a spot near the iconic Raja Rani Lake. While the rhythmic sound of Madal and popular folk songs echoed from neighboring groups, we got busy with our setup. There’s a unique joy in cooking outdoors during winter; the steam rising from a big pot of local chicken curry and the aroma of smoky selroti and achaar made the wait feel like an eternity!
More Than Just Food
Between meals, we wandered around the twin lakes, admiring the lotus leaves and the surrounding forest. The area is steeped in local folklore, adding a touch of mystery to the scenic beauty. Whether it was the competitive games of badminton or simply sitting on the grass soaking up the Vitamin D, the "winter blues" didn't stand a chance.
Raja Rani isn’t just a picnic spot; it’s a place where memories are seasoned with laughter and woodsmoke. As the sun began to dip behind the hills, we packed up, our hearts full and our jackets smelling of the great outdoors.
